The Revolutionary War has more than a few unsung heroes. Deborah Sampson was one of them.

After federal officials failed to collect the whiskey tax from Oliver Miller, angry locals joined him the next day and burned tax collector John Neville's mansion down. The 'Whiskey Boys' threatened to seize Pittsburgh. Soon President Washington himself led troops to the area.

The Oliver Miller Homestead is the place where the Whiskey Rebellion began July 15, 1794. A federal inspector and federal marshal showed up to collect the tax, were turned away and shots were fired. The next day, tensions escalated at nearby Bower Hill where the tax inspector John Nevile had his mansion burned to the ground and two of the rebels (Miller included were killed)

Really bummed I didn't get inside to see the beautiful memorial for President James Garfield and his family. Unfortunately it was closed the entire window I was in town....but next time for sure. He was only the president for 6 months before an assassin took his life. I honestly think was on a trajectory to do great things. Besides, he gave us this gem of a quote.... "The truth shall set you free...but first it will make you miserable."
